WaveX founder Simon Renwick told the story pv magazine that including wave energy in a solar farm’s energy mix could reduce capital expenditure by 50%, according to the ‘Ocean Wave Energy in Australia’ report from the University of Western Australia’s Blue Economy Cooperative Research Center (CRC).

“It does it for wind energy, it does it for solar energy, and it does it for wind and solar energy combined and that’s an absolute game-changer that I think has slipped under the radar in terms of the message why wave energy is worth it. the hassle,” Renwick said. “Well, that’s because it can have a profound effect on the cost of renewable energy, because when the sun doesn’t shine or the wind doesn’t blow, it’s usually wave energy. It has a strengthening effect and even allows deeper penetration of wind and solar, because the three together are absolutely more powerful than the sum of their components.”

WaveX aims to deploy a large-scale prototype of its D-spar Wave Power Generator, which will have a capacity of 30 kW, or the equivalent of six rooftop solar installations, to generate clean energy.
