Lightsource bp has selected Ameresco Sunel Energy SA, a joint venture between US cleantech integrator Ameresco Inc and Greek developer Sunel Group, to lead the construction of its 560 MW solar project, located in the Larissa and Fthiodia regions of central Greece. to support.

Earlier this week it was announced that the company would be both the EPC and O&M supplier for the Enipeas project. Funding for the project, which comes partly from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU fund, was announced in April.

The project includes two clusters: Skopia, a southern cluster of 400 MW and Kalithea, a northern cluster of 160 MW. Together, the sites will contain 970,000 solar panels and have a combined capacity that makes it one of the largest solar energy projects in Europe.

Upon completion, which is expected to take place within the next 18 to 24 months, the project is expected to generate 0.90 TWh of electricity annually, power the equivalent of 225,000 households and avoid CO2 emissions by 379,000 tonnes per year.

“The 560 MWp Enipeas project contributes substantially to creating a more sustainable future for Greece as it will provide affordable, secure and cleaner energy and support the country’s decarbonization goals and energy independence,” said Natalia Paraskevopoulou, Lightsource bp’s Head of Country for Greece. “In addition, it will help stimulate the local economy. The presence of workers and contractors will stimulate demand for housing, groceries and other local services, generating additional revenue for local businesses and entrepreneurs.”
