XL batteries has successfully given the first fully integrated commercial commissioned Organic stream battery As part of a pilot project in Texas. In collaboration with Stolthaven -TerminalsA global provider of storage services for bulk fluids and gases, this paid pilot project is the first deployment of XL’s innovative long -term energy storage (LDES) technology and confirms commercial viability.
As the urgency for American energy security grows, the limitations of current energy sources become increasingly clear. Cost-effective, safe LDS solutions are essential for energy benefits on the grid, but existing battery technologies are duration, geographically limited or hindered by safety problems and dependence on toxic and rare materials.
The groundbreaking organic battery technology of XL batteries is the first solution that effectively tackles these critical barriers. By combining a patented organic electrolyte molecule with the proven flow battery architecture, the solution of XL batteries is flexible and scalable to serve the complex needs of tools, IPPs and industrial users. The partnership with Stolthaven terminals shows the efficiency, duration, safety, reliability and cheap profile of the organic flow battery technology in real-world conditions, which provides valuable data for future commercial implementations.
“This commissioning of our safe, cheap and reliable battery on a grid-scale represents a crucial milestone, not only for our company, but also for the entire industry,” said Tom Sisto, CEO and co-founder of XL batteries. “We are proud to demonstrate a scalable LDES solution that will support the operational efforts of Stolthaven Terminal for the next 20 years, while the American energy benefit of American energy treatment is being brought.”
For Stolthaven -Terminals, this project is expected – based on its facility in Houston – to generate financial and operational benefits, including the potential to offer energy storage in the vicinity of its facilities and coastal capacity to ships that called his terminals in the future.
“The installation of the very first industrial scale Organic Flow battery at our Terminal in Houston is an exciting milestone in our sustainability trip and that of our industry,” said Guy Bessant, president of Stolthaven-Terminals. “Long-term solutions for energy storage are crucial for the global energy transition. XL batteries share our vision to use innovation, knowledge exchange and cooperation to develop energy solutions for the future, and this is a true success story of how strategic partnerships and advanced technology can become future-proof industrial activities.”
The successful commissioning of this project offers XL batteries Real-World data to inform the final design decisions that are needed to scale its commercial product the company gets a cheap, direct way to large-scale commercial viability.
