The presidential solar initiative will install 50 MW of capacity at schools, hospitals and other public institutions through a partnership with Accura Logistics and Baker Global Capital Africa.

The program is intended to provide 209 public institutions with electricity, including schools and hospitals in Zambia.

Local reports indicate that the initiative will install the 50 MW solar capacity in the eastern province of Zambia.

In a post on social media, Energie Makozo Chikote Investors Minister encouraged Joint Ventures to form Zambian companies to stimulate local participation and to promote the objectives for energy development of the country.

In May, Staatsbedrijf Zesco completed the 100 MW Chisamba Solar Farm in southern Zambia, the largest solar facility associated with schedule in the country. A second phase of 100 MW is under development.

At the end of 2025, Zambia is planning to add 1 GW to solar capacity to the National Rooster, as part of a goal in the longer term to reach 10 GW by 2030. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, the cumulative solar capacity in Zambia in 196 MW was at the end of 2023.
