THDC India, a subsidiary of NTPC, has commissioned the first unit of 250 MW of a 1 GW variable fast pump storage water couple project in India.

THDC India Ltd, a subsidiary of NTPC LTD, has commissioned the first unit of 250 MW of its 1 GW variable speed pump to Hydro Power Project in Uttarakhand, India commissioned.

The project consists of four units of 250 MW each. It is foreseen to generate 1 GW peak power to improve the reliability of the network in Noord -India.

The reservoirs made by Tehri Dam and Koteshwar Dam on the river Bhagirathi act as a river and river reservoirs for the pumped storage plant.

The project is carried out by Alstom, in Consortium with Hindustan Construction Co. (HCC). The scope of Alstom includes the range of four 250 MW variable speed turbine and generator units and other equipment, including main intake valves and control and security systems.
