Engie’s Australian division has started construction on Victoria’s largest solar farm to date bigger projects in the state’s pipeline.

The 250 MW Goorambat East Solar Farm, located in northern Victoria between the towns of Goorambat and Benalla, is expected to be completed in 2026 and commence operations in 2027.

Engie took over the project from Neoen at the end of 2023. It is Engie’s first solar project in Victoria following the closure of the Hazelwood coal-fired electricity generator in 2017.

The Goorambat East solar farm will contain around 500,000 solar panels spread over a 630 hectare site that apparently includes five private rural properties. The facility will be connected to the electricity grid via the newly built Goorambat East terminal station. The companies Bouygues Construction Australia and Equans Solar and Storage have reportedly been contracted by Engie to provide engineering, procurement and construction services.
