A new appendix for asphalt gravel and composite slate roofs makes solar installation possible without boring holes through the external roof layer has been awarded a semi-final of the solar price made in the US. It was developed by Martin Solar and Roofing.

The Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) of the US Department of Energy has rewarded Martin Solar $ 50,000 as one of the 20 semi-finalists in the American-made solar performance program. Seto rated more than 150 new innovations in the solar industry, in which it was reduced to 20 recipients in the eighth round of the program. The prices were announced on January 15, 2025.

Martin Solar developed a hidden fast sunscreen assembly (HFSM), a unique attachment designed for asphalt gravel and composite slate roofs that avoid a hole in the external roof layer.

While many sunburns on top of the gravel, penetrating all layers of the roof, HFSM is installed under the roof layer, which is attached by traditional nailing.

Preston Nelson, solar director, Martin Roofing and Solar, said PV Magazine USA The sunscreen assembly can be installed on existing roofs or as part of a new roof process. It does not require the removal of shingles and only requires that the installation program sets the gravel seal in the assembly, install the Mount and the gravel over the base is used to cover fasteners. It can also be installed during a re -tenny process that solar customers on the roof often choose to install solar energy for the first time.

Martin Solar and Roofing corresponds to the guarantee for a retrofit project with the remaining warranty period for the existing roof. For example, if you still have a 24 -year roof guarantee, Martin Solar will match the warranty. With a complete roof replacement together with the installation, Martin Solar guarantees a leak -free function for the lifetime of the roof.

The mountain was made by the US and built from an aluminum of degree 5052, the same material used to make high-end flat-bed trailers for 18-wheelers, Nelson said. Each unit weighs 0.6 lbs.

“At this stage of competition, prize money is usually used for prototyping and testing. For HFSM that is already complete, which means that we can focus on our own rail and a unique clamp. Although HFSM is currently compatible with other popular railway options such as Unirac, Ironridge, Pegasus, etc., we also have some new ideas for improving rails and clamps that our own installers would like to control, “said Nelson.

The company is also developing an HFSM for metal roofs, which it said will be ready for demonstration on time for the RE+ Solar Conference in Las Vegas in September 2025.

“For installers, HFSM offers a new degree of trust in solar energy on the roof that practically eliminates the leak risk,” Nelson said.
