Island Green Power has announced that it has received permission to develop the 46 MW Welby Solar Farm in Lincolnshire.

The project will be located on 19 hectares of land 1.5 km north of the city of Welby, with extra land devoted to improvements of biodiversity, including creating a habitat for Skylarks. The building permit has also been granted for a battery storage system of the battery energy (BESS), although island green electricity has not revealed which size they want to make a potential on-site Bess.

Biodiversity was an important care for the project developers, and there is a lot of explaining to stimulate biodiversity in the area. The final project will result in a profit in watercourse units of 52.58%, as well as an increase of 19.87% in Hedgerow units and a profit of 21.21% in habitate units. A timeline for when construction will start has not yet been announced.

Sam Aitchison, project manager for Welby Solar Farm, said: “We are everyone who participated in the planning process for their comments and feedback that we used to refine our plans. We will keep closely with South Kesteven and local residents to ensure that the project is delivered in the best possible way. “

Dave Elvin, Chief Development Officer at Island Green Power, added: “Welby will build on our strong track record of delivering projects that make a real difference for sustainability, to support the transition from the UK to clean, own, own renewable, renewable energy. “

Another success for island green force

The news comes just a few weeks after Island Green Power was granted a development assignment (DCO) for a National Signal Infrastructure Project (NSIP), the West Burton Solar PV energy center. Also planned in Lincolnshire, with part of the project that has deviated from the border to the neighboring county of Nottinghamshire, the project has a proposed generation capacity of 480 MW. The development will be spread over different plots, all of which will connect to an existing substation in West Burton Power Station.

The project has been developing since 2021, where Island Green Power submits an application for a DCO in March 2023 and the formal investigation of the proposal that will be concluded in May 2024. The company has not yet revealed if construction could start at the West Burton Solar project, or provided an expected schedule connection date.
