Solar Developer and Independent Power Producer (IPP) Ampyr Solar Europe (ASE) has chosen Gridbeyond to manage its 7.5 MW Battery Energy Storage System (Bess) in Northwold, Norfolk.

Gridbeyond, a smart energy company that offers a technology platform for managing distributed and flexible energy sources, connects the Bess with its AI-driven platform, so that the batteries can be automatically dismissed in response to instructions from the grid operator.

The company’s flagship product, managed battery as a service (MBaas), enables external management, energy price prediction, trading optimization, service peslet, commercial entry and device control.

De Bess is co-location with ASE’s Northwold Solar PV development, the first of 400 MWp from British assets that receives financing from a £ 200 million framework project finance facility that the developer secured in November 2024.

Scott Berrie, director of Gridbeyond, noted that the agreement will demonstrate the effectiveness of the AI-driven technology in the management of “the complex interaction between solar generation and BESS optimization”.

ASE, with head office in London, signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Construction Company Multiplex in 2023, which will provide the latter 9,000 MWh of the Northwold Solar Power Station annually.

The British energy regulator Vangem granted a license for electricity generation for Northwold on January 31 of this year.

ASE was launched in 2021 as a result of a joint venture between the energy trade company AGP Group and Naga Solar, when he wants to develop a portfolio of at least 4GW of solar projects in the VK, the Netherlands and Germany.

It now has a British pipeline of almost 1GWP and a total European pipeline of 8GWP. Further British solar PV projects are expected to reach commercial operation this year, says ASE.
