Modi to get the construction of India-Sri Lanka Solar Plant

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the construction of a long delayed solar energy project during his upcoming visit to Sri Lanka, an official said on Friday.

Vikram Miskri, the secretary of the Foreign Ministry of India, said that Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will witness a virtual groundbreaking ceremony for their joint venture solar energy project in the northeast of the island on April 5.

The proposed company of 120 megawatts in the northeastern coastal district of Trincomalee has been stuck for years, but New Delhi supported it as a joint project between the neighboring nations.

“This will be a milestone in the bilateral partnership in many ways,” said Miskri reporters in New Delhi.

“Together they will spend various projects that are being built with Indian help in Sri Lanka and will also witness the exchange of various mice with regard to energy connectivity, digitization, defense, health and multi -sectoral subsidy assistance.”

The couple will see the virtual groundbreaking of Sri Lankan capital Colombo. The costs of the project were not immediately available.

The pioneering one day before Modi concludes his two nights to Sri Lanka, comes as Colombo struggles with the competing interests of his powerful northern neighbor and China, the biggest lender.

Modi will be the first foreign head of the government to visit the island nation under the new administration of left -wing dissanayake. He flies in Colombo on April 4 after attending a regional conference in Thailand.

The first foreign visit of Dissanayake after his election last year was to New Delhi in December.

Sri Lankan officials in Colombo said that Modi and Dissanayake will travel to the Northern Buddhist pilgrimage city of Anuradhapura on 6 April.

Dissanayake traveled to Beijing in January and underlined Sri Lanka’s delicate balancing law when maintaining ties with the two regional rivals.

New Delhi is concerned about the growing influence of China in Sri Lanka, which she regards as within his atmosphere of geopolitical influence.
