Chinese researchers have developed a carbon-14 (C-14) nuclear battery in silicon carbide semiconductor material, which marks an important performance in the technology for nuclear battery. Developed by Beita Pharmatech, based in Jiangsu in collaboration with Northwest Normal University, the prototype “Candle Dragon One” promises a theoretical operational lifespan of thousands of years.

The Engineering Monster has been continuously testing for four months in the Isotope Lab of Beita Pharmatech, successfully 35,000 LED light pulses. Researchers have also integrated the battery with energy storage devices to feed Bluetooth RF chips, successfully shipping and received signals.
