Catl started legal proceedings on 25 June at the Intermediate People’s Court of Ningde in the Chinese Fujian province, aimed at Hithium and five affiliated entities, including the founders and various suppliers, according to judicial files. The court is planned to hear the case on 12 August during the critical assessment period of Hithium’s Hong Kong Stock Exchange question.
The lawsuit claims that Hithium is involved in systematic poaching of the technical staff of CATL and battery products – in particular the 587 AH -Cell – with specifications almost identical to Catl’s own patented designs. The energy density abnormality between the two products is reportedly only 4.4%, well under the 10% technical threshold that is usually used to distinguish original designs from possible infringements.
Hithium was founded in 2019 and has emerged as one of the most important players in the global market for energy storage. In just five years, the Xiamen-based company climbed worldwide to third place in Lithium-ion storage batteries, with only Catl and Eve energy. It works now or builds production facilities in Xiamen, Chongqing, Shandong and TexasWith plans to reach more than 100 GWh in annual capacity by 2026.
