German court maintains grid connection costs for battery projects – PV Magazine International

The top court of Germany has ruled that operators of distribution network projects may have to pay of battery storage projects to pay grid connection costs, whereby the costs are mentioned fairly, because they help prevent overbuilding and protection consumers of surplus system costs.

The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) of Germany in Karlsruhe has confirmed the legality of grid connection payments for battery storage systems. This decision of the cartel -Saat was already expected after oral arguments that were heard a few weeks ago.

The Karlsruhe judges ruled that the Federal Network Agency is not mandatory to prevent local distribution network operators from charging grid connections based on the capacity price model on the battery storage systems are connected to the grid. As a result, the BGH has annulled the earlier decision of a lower court and rejected the appeal lodged by the applicant.
