A review by the Sun Day campaign of Data just released The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reveals that solar energy delivered more than 11% of the total American electrical generation in May, while Wind + Solar produced over one fifth and the mix of all sources of renewable energy sources generated nearly 30%.

The last monthly “Electric Power Monthly” report from EIA (with data up to and including 31 May 2025) confirms that Solar is growing the fastest among the most important sources of American electricity.

In May alone, the electrical generation increased by a utility (ie> 1 MW) by a third (33.3%) compared to May 2024, while “estimated” small-scale (eg roof) solar PV increased by 8.9%. Combined, they grew with 26.4% and provided more than 11% of the country’s electric output during the month.

For the first time, the mix of utility scale and small-scale solar sun produced more electricity than wind: solar energy-38.965 GWH; Wind-36.907-GWH.

In addition, the thermal and photovoltaic solar and photovoltaic on Utility scale on Utility scale has been expanded by 39.8%, while from small-scale systems that rose by 10.7% during the first five months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. The combination of utility-zonne-zonne-Zonne-Zonne-Zonne-Zonne-Zonne-Zonne-Zonne-Zonne-Zonne (31.1%) and was almost 8.4% of the total American electric generation for January-May-Up of 6.6% a year earlier.

As a result, the electricity generated by solar energy easily surpassed the output of the water water power stations (6.1%). Solar now produces more electricity than hydropower, biomass and geothermal combined.

Wind + Solar is more than one fifth of the total American electrical generation-one larger share than that supplied by coal or nuclear energy:

During the first five months of 2025, by Wind Plus Nutschart and small-scale Zonne-Zonne-Zon offered more than one fifth (20.5%) of the American total, an increase of 18.7% during the first five months of 2024. In only the month of May, Solar Plus Wind was in just 21.5% of the American electric output.

During the first five months of this year, the combination of wind and solar energy supplied 26.2% more electricity than coal and 15.4% more than the country’s nuclear power stations. In May alone, inequality increased when solar energy + wind-produced coal and nuclear energy or 55.7% and 22.1% respectively.

Electric exit Due to the mix of all renewable energy sources, almost 30%was in May:

The mix of all renewable energy sources (that is, wind and solar energy plus water power, biomass and geothermal) produced 9.7% more electricity in January-May than a year ago (7.6% more only in May) and delivered (28.1%) of the total American electricity production compared to 26.5% earlier.

Electric generation Due to the combination of all renewable energy sources in only May, almost 30% (29.7%) of the total American electrical generation yielded. The share of renewable energy sources in the electrical generation is now only as that of natural gas whose electric output fell by 5.9% during the month.

“Solar and wind continue to grow, establish new records and produce both coal and nuclear energy,” said executive director of Sun Day Campaign Ken Bossong. “Consequently, the constant republican attack on renewable energy sources is not only misleading and illogical, but also a good example of themselves in the foot.”
