The specialist of the specialist of IJzersodium batteries Systyte Energy has obtained a subsidy of $ 4.1 million from the Office of Electricity of the US Department of Energy to use a grid scale battery in a fire-sensitive region in Northern California. The funds come from the Critical Facility Energy Resilience program of the department.

The resilience-oriented installation offers power sources for a critical evacuation zone, lower the electricity costs of the facility and offer a diesel-free alternative to long-term backup power.

The battery is installed in a Microgrid on the Alliance Redwoods Conference Grounds in Sonoma County, California. The installation comprises a planned 570 kW of solar and the 200 kW/4 MWh battery system from Inlyte. The installation, which includes 20 -hour storage, is expected to reduce the annual electricity costs of the facility by a maximum of $ 300,000.

The Microgrid campus in Alliance Redwoods is located in a Tier-3 threat zone and serves as a designated community evacuation center and a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Staging Area. The project also offers back -up power for the nearby water pump station of Russian river Utility.

“With the battery of Inlyte and our Solar Array, we can work independently of the grid during malfunctions at a strong lower costs,” said Mike Dethlefsen, board member at Alliance Redwoods. “It is crucial that it ensures that we can remain operational to serve our community and serve other critical local infrastructure when the schedule drops.”

The iron-natrium batteries from Inlyte have been selected for their non-flammable chemistry. Lithium-ion batteries, the conventional chemistry for grid batteries, Wear a risk of fire brigadeAlthough raster scale batteries are usually outfit with advanced fire detection and oppressing systems.

Vital Energy Solutions will manage project development, engineering and construction, which integrate a microgrid and the iron-sodium battery from Intlyte. The project is planned to achieve activities in 2027. The performance of the project is evaluated by Project Partners Electric Power Research Institute and Pacific Northwest National Laboratories.

The batteries of iron sodium are manufactured in the United States.
