The National Energy System Operator (NESO), in collaboration with the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DSNZ) has explained important actions that are needed to digitize the energy sector.

The Digitalization Plan sector, which was also established in collaboration with energy systems Catapult and supported by Digital Catapult, Connected Places Catapult and the Royal Academy of Engineering, draws up 16 important promotions that must be taken to sufficiently digitize the energy system to meet Schone Stroom 2030. The 16 important actions are designed to resolve challenges in the field of energy sector in six topics: simplicity of consumers, flexibility guided by the consumer, schedule decarbonization and security, networks, access and connections, operability of system and supply chain and workforce.

For each action, Neso has established a time frame for its implementation and an overview of who needs to be involved to achieve the results. One of the most important promotions is different those who surround smart meters, where Action 3 stipulates that Elixon, Desnz and the Retail Energy Code Company (RECCO) work together to get smart meter-data access between the Smart Data Repository, the Smart Meter Energy Data Repository and a consumer data system to be developed.

In addition, several actions within the plan relate to the future of flexibility markets on the British Energieretter. Action 7 states that electricity networks must develop an Activaregister for flexibility assets that integrates with the Flexibility Market Asset Registration (FMar) system that is currently being developed and implement it in October 2027.

In the meantime, Action 8 states that the market facilitator will determine before the end of 2026 whether early progress can be made to create new standards for flexibility markets. Elixon, that is set To take on the role of market facilitator from the end of this year, has stated that it will work on developing a common FMar Up to H1 2026. Under the FMar, the flexibility market system will be more streamlined, with flexibility aggregators and assets owners who are only needed once to register their assets to participate in several local and national flexibility market events.

Standards for control room technology and communication will also be determined via the digitization plan of the energy sector. NESO will determine the technological standards that are necessary to optimize the large numbers of low -carbon energy assets that will be online in the coming months and collaborate with distribution system operators (DSOs) to set standards for communication and data exchange. Both actions will be delivered in mid -2028.

In addition, Neso will start creating a digital coordinator roll in the organization at the beginning of 2026, determining what such a position should achieve and what supervision and strength a digital coordinator would have.

Shubhi Rajnish, Chief Information Officer at Neso, noted: “To achieve clean power by 2030, Groot -Britain needs robust digital infrastructure and seamless integration in systems, sectors and society. The Digitalization Plan sector draws up the route juice to deliver the digital trip.

Energy Minister Michael Shanks, who recently has delivered the keynote speech on Solar Media’s Clean Power 2030 Conference in London stated that digitization will be a “crucial tool in transforming our energy system”, adding “a flexible electricity system can help people reduce their accounts by taking advantage of new rates and technologies – and we work together with NESO and partners to deliver this.”

Review the British energy system

The digitization plan is just one of a number of strategic changes that Neso undertakes as part of its efforts to ensure that the nation can achieve its Schone Power 2030 goals.

Between July and August, Neso had a public consultation About plans to redevelop the British energy network through the development of the Centralized Strategic Network Plan (CSNP). The CNSP will look beyond 2030 and determine a 25-year-old route map for transmission repeat development and will bring together the planning of electricity, gas and hydrogen transmission. Neso was also instructed to Strategic Spatial Energy Plan (SSNP) in October 2024A plan in which it is investigated how the best new projects for generating energy in Britian can be found by considering the impact of other sectors in different regions of the country.

In July, Neso started reorganizing the more than 3,000 projects in the queue of the Grid Connections As part of the reforms of the grid connection to speed up the connection times. New connection agreements will be issued from this fall, whereby priority is given to projects that are ready to be delivered and are the most critical for the success of the goals of Clean Power 2030.
