Argentina has successfully closed its first tender for the battery energy storage and awarded 667 MW of capacity – about 30% more than the originally planned 500 MW – due to strong industrial interest and competing prices.

The awarded projects are part of the Alma-GBA task, which focuses on critical nodes in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (Amba) to improve the reliability and efficiency of the network.

The Energy Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy has announced that 15 companies have submitted 27 proposals from a total of 1,347 MW. AWOND contracts were granted to the distribution companies Edenor and Edesur, where Cammesa (Wholesale Electricity Market Administration Company) acted as the payment guarantee.
