Developer Aumera has received the planning permission of the City of York Council for a large Bess project, which said that the urgent need for the technology outweighs the damage it will cause to the green belt of the city.

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project was approved by the council earlier this week (September 15).

The decision relates to a field adjacent to a farm on the green belt of the city and takes care of the installation of the Bess and the associated infrastructure, including a high -voltage station, inverters, switch devices, screens, CCTV, landscape architecture and biodiversity improvements.

The Council defended its decision to approve the Green Belt project in a statement. Although it will cause “considerable damage to the green belt and its openness”, it said, it must be considered in the context of the urgent need for Bess as part of the efforts of the British government.

“There is a convincing justification that the benefits of the proposal when combating climate change and the achievement of net zero carbon clearly outweigh the damage,” is the decision document. The development must start construction within three years of the decision.

Large -scale Bess is needed to integrate the growing mix of the growing renewable energy mix of the VK, by offering critical system services and helping them balance supply and demand. The UK today has 7,582 MW/11,369 MWH from Operational BessAccording to figures from the battery storage of Solar Media Market Research: UK Pipeline & Completed Assets Database Report. The government wants 11-27 GW online by 2030.

Although Aumera was not mentioned in the decision document, the planning reference of the project 24/02303/FULM competitions that Aukera give for his project is.

The planning document said that the project will be drawn up 272 Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Bess -Containers each with 4MWH of energy storage capacity, which means a total capacity of 1,088 MWh. That would make the project a 4 -hour system.

The Bess units are 6 meters long (20 feet), 2.4 meters wide and will be finished in moss -green color, comparable to some other remarkable British Bess projects. A supplier was not a name in the documents.

This week has also seen project goods inspections for a development partnership between Renewable Power Capital and Greenfield, in Wombourne and has a total of 82 MW, Covered by solar energy portal.
