The United States had a record quarter for the implementation of battery energy storage from April to June, with 5.6 GW of installations, according to a report released by the ACP and Wood Mackenzie.

Storage on the utility scale was at the forefront, and added 4.9 GW in the quarter and grew 62% on an annual basis. This is sufficient to feed 3.7 million American houses during the average peak times, the ACP said.

California, Texas and Arizona each added more than 1 GW storage in the quarter, the report said. Wood Mackenzie predicts that Florida and Georgia will be large growth markets for the aggressive purchasing by vertically integrated utilities. For example Georgia Power a request for proposals issued for 500 MW storage on the roster scale.
