The first offshore floating solar project in the world, an array of 0.5 MW in the Dutch coast of Noord -Windpark off the Dutch coast, runs without public subsidies despite setbacks of storms and fire incidents.

Minister of Climate and Green Growth of the The NetherlandsSophie Hermans has confirmed that a continuous floating sun trial project in the Dutch North Sea does not receive government subsidies.

The Nymphaea Aurora project is a 0.5 MW of floating solar -Array integrated into the 759 MW Dutch coast Noord offshore wind farm, 18.5 km from the coast. It was installed in mid -August and is ready to work for a year.

The project is the Worldly first Offshore solar system within an offshore wind farm and is a collaboration between Dutch floating solar specialists Oceans of Energy and Crosswind, a joint venture company between Shell and Eneco that has developed and operates the wind farm.

During a line of parliamentary interrogation, Minister Hermans confirmed that the government has not entered into financial obligations for the realization and operation of the project.

“The project is funded by the Crosswind initiator, who, if the permit holder, is also responsible for the development and operation. This includes cooperation with the subcontractor and technology developer Oceans of Energy,” Hermans explained.

In a separate question, Hermans emphasized that the permit holder bears the full costs for the project, but added that around € 520,000 ($ 611.166) is used unspoken subsidy budget from another offshore solar innovation project for ecological monitoring of this project. “The government actively uses these funds, so that realistic data is collected in this project about the ecological effects of this technology, reducing existing knowledge gaps,” the minister said.

Hermans added that the demonstration project is investigating the potential and feasibility of offshore -Zonne -Zonne energy. One of the objectives is To better estimate the yield losses, with monitoring to calculate what percentage of the yield is lost to polluted factors such as salt deposits and algae growth.

In one Decision -making In addition to the parliamentary questions, Hermans added that the pilot installation encountered problems in recent weeks, including damage caused by a storm and various fire incidents that were extinguished by the coast guard.

In a LinkedIn post, oceans of energy confirmed a small fire and considerable smoke developed on 5 September, so that the plant was electrically insulated as a precautionary measure. A follow -up post of mid -September said that some of the drivers were influenced by heating events due to a specific problem with electrical connector, which resulted in partly melting of plastics.

“It struck around 15 of the 200 floats in the southernmost row. These had no PV panels, but they lost some of their synthetic materials,” the post explained. “We have worked hard on the inclusion and are preparing for repair. The lessons in the past two months were invaluable to achieve product maturity”.

In February 2024 it announced A projectIn collaboration with 15 European partners, with the aim of scaling offshore -Zonne technology to standard formats of 150 MW.
