Rivington Energy, the parent company of UK Developer Renewable Connections, has obtained a 139 MW Co-located solar and BESS portfolio from operator grip reserve.

The acquisition includes two ready-to-build (RTB) assets and a pre-RTB project, all of which are equipped with solar PV that are laid together with battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The first location to be built is a 54 MW Zonne energy center, together with a 72 MWH Bess, in Scunthorpe, which will enter the construction in October of this year. Energy is expected in September 2026.

Rivington Energy said that the other two projects are a 44 MW site in Doncaster and a 41 MW site in Hartlepool, and that the storage capacity of all three sites a total of 160mWh.

With the help of the Solar Media Market Research Database, Solar Power Portal can confirm that the Scunthorpe project is the Conesby Solar Farm, and the other projects are the Partridge Hill Solar Farm in Doncaster and the Whelley Hill Farm. The deal for the three locations was completed on September 29.

Although the Whelley Hill Solar Plant, in Hartlepool, is the furthest in construction, Gride reserve began the planning process itself in 2020. It bought conesby from INRG in 2020 and took over Partridge Hill from Innova in 2021.

In 2023, however, Grip reserve announced his intention to leave Solar PV to concentrate on his EV -Laadinfrastructure network. This means that the projects have remained inactive for several years before the acquisition.

The movement now continues with one Trend explained by solar analyst Josh Cornes in a recent article Coverage of British solar fusions and acquisitions, of increased activities prior to the upcoming grid connection owed from the National Energy System Operator (NESO).

Cornes said he expected that, with grip reserve that the Zonnemarkt has left, and both the Patridge Hill and the Conesby-Sonneplants with a schedule connection dates in 2026-2027, the projects had to be loaded to be built in the window given to projects with ‘protected’ status, as explained by Neso.
