Clearway Energy Group announced that it has signed a 20-year PPA and 260-year energy storage agreement with Grant County Public Utility District No. 2 for the Royal Slope Energy Center, a 260 MW solar energy storage facility in Grant County, Washington.

“This partnership with Grant PUD reflects our shared vision to provide near-term reliability and power to regions experiencing significant load growth from data centers and industrial demand,” said Valerie Wooley, senior VP of origination at Clearway. “Royal Slope is a long-term investment in Washington’s energy independence and economic vitality.”

Grant PUDs Integrated Resources Plan 2024 has identified near-term energy and capacity needs to meet utility reliability requirements and Washington State carbon goals. The power purchase and energy storage agreements with the services Clearway provides at its Royal Slope Energy Center will support Grant PUD in achieving its near-term goals for both solar and battery storage by 2028 and move the utility closer to meeting its power purchasing needs through 2030.

The Royal Slope Energy Center will generate enough electricity to power up to 87,000 homes. The project is located on unincorporated private land and will be interconnected through the Vantage Substation utilizing transmission infrastructure operated by Bonneville Power Administration.

The project is projected to generate an estimated $130 million in state and local taxes to support first responders, education and other public services. More than 325 union workers will contribute to the construction of the project.

Royal Slope is expected to be commercially operational by the end of 2027.
