Just a few weeks after the start of commercial exploitation of its first half battery park In Vilvoorde, Engie has also connected the second part of 100 MW/400 MWh to the high-voltage grid.

This milestone marks the full commissioning of its full 200 MW/800 MWh capacity, making it one of the largest battery farms in Europe. The battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Engie gas power plant site in Vilvoorde, north of Brussels, was completed just 16 months after the groundbreaking ceremony and two months ahead of schedule.

The French energy giant said in a press release last week that it is now exploring the possibility of expanding the Vilvoorde project by a third, which would bring the total capacity to 300 MW/1,200 MWh.
