Chinese PV manufacturer Jolywood has started mass production of TOPCon low-silver solar cells at its factory in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province.
The new cell architecture, called Nano Armor Metal Inter-Contact (Namic), is designed to prevent aluminum diffusion into the silicon structure, while maintaining vertical conductivity and limiting lateral conductivity. This allows partial replacement of silver paste with cheaper aluminum paste in TOPCon metallization processes.
Jolywood said the mass-produced Namic cells have achieved a conversion efficiency of more than 27%, largely in line with existing TOPCon products. The first generation Namic 1.0 design uses silver paste on the front and aluminum paste on the back. The process is said to be compatible with existing TOPCon production lines.
According to Jolywood, the Namic 1.0 upgrade only requires additional laser equipment. The company has started modernizing some of its Shanxi capacity and plans an initial conversion of 8 GW. The aluminum paste used in the process is sourced from the market and does not require a dedicated supply chain, the company added.
Jolywood said the cells also showed high temperature resistance, ultraviolet (UV) stability and anti-potential-induced degradation (PID) performance in reliability testing.
The company has also outlined a three-phase roadmap. Namic 1.0 focuses on the silver reduction on the back, while maintaining TOPCon level efficiency. Namic 2.0 is expected to increase module power, while Namic 3.0 is planned as an all-aluminum-paste back-contact cell design.
The company said it remains open to future patent licensing under appropriate circumstances, noting that the commercialization of Namic in 2026 will be a key focus of its research and industrialization work, in addition to the development of perovskite and back-contact technologies.
