Brazil added 6 GW of new PV capacity between January and April. ABSolar, the Brazilian PV association, says the country has now deployed a cumulative 43 GW of solar capacity, of which around 24 GW is from PV systems of less than 75 kW.

According to PV association ABSolar, solar energy in Brazil has surpassed 43 GW of installed capacity.

About 29.2 GW of this capacity comes from PV systems with distributed generation of less than 5 MW, while 13.8 GW comes from large-scale PV installations of more than 5 MW. ABSolar said about 24 GW of its distributed generation capacity comes from PV systems of less than 75 kW.

From January to May this year, 6 GW of solar energy was added to the national electricity mix. The share of PV is now equal to 18.2% of installed capacity in Brazil’s electricity mix.

“The exponential growth of solar energy reflects the popularity and great attractiveness of photovoltaic technology in Brazil, both for consumers in their homes, businesses and rural properties and for the expansion of the National Interconnected System with larger power stations,” said Ronaldo Koloszuk, Chairman from the board of Absolar.
