Swiss solar technology pioneer Meyer Burger has started production of solar panel assembly at its new factory in Goodyear, Arizona. A factory audit was recently completed and according to Meyer Burger it went without any problems.

The first modules produced in Arizona, as shared on social media.

The solar cells used in the panels assembled in America are produced in Meyer Burger’s German factory. Ultimately, Meyer Burger will transition to using cells made at the new factory currently under construction in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Meyer Burger also said it is developing relationships for more domestic components and should announce the binding agreements in the third quarter this year. In addition, the company is finalizing loan agreements for the disbursement of 45x Inflation Reduction Act credits. Meyer Burger has also submitted a loan application to the Dept. of Energy to finance its solar cell plant in Colorado, which is currently under review.

Meyer Burger previously stated that the Arizona panel plant would have an annual production capacity of 1.5 GW with room to expand to 2 GW. The cell plant in Colorado is expected to have an annual production capacity of 2 GW.

Meyer Burger specializes in heterojunction technology (HJT), a combination of crystalline silicon and thin film of amorphous silicon. The company recently to block its German solar panel manufacturing facility due to the collapse of the European panel manufacturing market. Meyer Burger will keep its German cell factory running until the Colorado plant gets off the ground.
