Bristan Group, a major manufacturer of kitchen and bathroom products, has successfully installed 1,666 solar panels at its headquarters in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

The new panels are expected to supply the business with more than 600 kW/h of electricity, enough to cover approximately 56% of the site’s power needs. This would result in enormous CO2 savings of approximately 100,000 kg per year.

The panels, each weighing 22kg, were installed on the roof of the Bristan Group headquarters with the support of energy partner Evo Energy.

Paul Jones HSE and QMS and facilities manager at Bristan Group, said: “This is another impressive step in Bristan Group’s sustainability journey as we work towards our ambitious net zero target. Having led this project, I am pleased with the success of the installation and look forward to witnessing its impact on our CO2 emissions.

“At Bristan Group we remain committed to reducing our impact on the environment year after year through energy savings and sustainable initiatives. This is a huge step forward for us, but there is still work to be done.”

Companies are looking for solar energy

As pressure to decarbonise the economy increases and high energy prices continue to weigh, many major UK companies are looking to solar as an energy solution.

In April, retail giant The Range announced it would install solar panels on more than 4.2 million square meters of roof space at its warehouse in Ashford. Just a month earlier, Manchester City football club unveiled its own plans to install almost 11,000 solar panels at its City Football Academy training facility.

a The large retail park in Swindon also recently received approval from the council to install 5,000 solar panels on the roof. Business tenants of the Orbital Retail Park can purchase the electricity produced by these panels, with excess power sold back to the National Grid.

A recent round of funding from the UK government will also support around 84 major solar projects on public buildings, including ten NHS Trusts, and many more schools and academies.

Solar Power Portal’s publisher Solar Media will host the UK Solar Summit on June 4-5, 2024 in London. The event will explore the new UK utility and rooftop solar landscape, look at the opportunities within a GW+ annual market, and much more. For more information, go to the website.
