The Japanese conglomerate said its washer-dryer can now be connected to rooftop PV through its AI-based Eee Connect system. This type of device is being added to air conditioners, water heaters and refrigerators and can now be controlled through the company’s Cocoro app.

Japanese industrial group Sharp has announced that it has upgraded its AI-based Eee Connect system for effective use of PV-generated electricity by connecting residential solar systems, batteries, home appliances and electric vehicles (EVs).

The company said the system is now also available ES-X12C/V12C washer-dryer, which contributes to the air conditioners, water heaters and refrigerators.

“According to our calculations, it is possible to reduce the annual electricity bill for washing and drying by approximately 30%,” Sharp said in a statement. “The system automatically shifts the drying time depending on the amount of excess energy generated by the rooftop PV system to reduce electricity bills.”

The company also explained that the Eee Connect system enables the visualization of energy generation and the purchase and sale of power, as well as automatic control of energy equipment using AI, monitoring the operating status of equipment and remote control of household appliances.

It can be used with Sharp’s Cocoro Energy mobile app, which allows control of multiple Sharp home appliances and reportedly alerts home and vehicle owners when to use the appliances or charge the EV.

Earlier this year, Sharp unveiled a new EV charger based on V2H technology made easier bidirectional flows between solar-powered homes and electric vehicles.
