The Argentine Energy Secretariat has received considerably more bids than expected for its public call to install large -scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires (Amba). Although the tender was directed to 500 MW, the Almagba purchasing proposals made proposals of a total of 1,347 MW on the back of very competitive prices and strong industrial interest.

The Argentinian energy secretariat has received bids for its open national and international call to install large-scale battery storage systems (BESS) in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (Amba). Although the target was 500 MW, the tender drew 27 proposals from 15 companies, a total of 1,347 MW – much more than expectations.

Competition turned out to be intense. The specifications of the wholesale market manager of Argentina, Cammesa, had set a reference price of $ 15,000/MW/month, but most bids were far below that level. The government had set up a grant threshold on 94Calculation From the reference price – around $ 14,100/MW/month – but exceptionally competing bids led to an extension of the award capacity.
