Atlanta K-12 School Installs Solar Lifters at Softball Field

Woodward AcademyA private pre-k-12 school in Atlanta, Georgia, is probably the first K-12 school in the country that installs solar panels on athletic facilities. The 47.7-KW awning system at the Sutherland Family Softball complex was built by Cherry Street Energy And join two other solar systems on the Woodward campus.

“The addition of these new solar panels is much more than an energy project – it is a statement about the future we want for our students,” said Dr. Chris Freer, president of Woodward Academy. “By investing in renewable energy, we show that innovation and community values ​​can come together to create a sustainable, hospitable environment for our fans and at the same time model the responsible use of our sources for our students.”

Amanda Chanin, co-founder of Cherry Street Energy, graduated from Woodward Academy in 2001. “It’s great to see that Woodward Academy, a place close to my heart, takes an exciting and student-oriented approach to bring solar energy to the campus through his partnership with Cherry Street,” she said.

Woodward drew a 20-year-old PPA with Cherry Street Energy, who has also financed, designed, installed and maintain the solar system system and, together with extra installations on the roof on the Woodward campus. The complete portfolio offers an annual energy -offset of 25%.

“K-12 schools represent a growing market with a high interest in solar energy,” said Michael Chanin, co-founder and CEO of Cherry Street Energy. “Woodward gives a good example and effectively shows energy management to other schools around Metro Atlanta, while creating learning opportunities that students can immediately observe every day.”
