Australia has registered its 4 millionth rooftop solar installation, with a total capacity of 25 GW 3.15 GW added in the past year.

Australian Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said the 4 millionth solar installation is a milestone for the country.

“We are fortunate to call the world’s sunniest continent ‘home’, which means we have access to the cheapest and cleanest renewable energy source at our fingertips,” Bowen said. “Aussie homeowners know that rooftop solar is a no-brainer when it comes to cutting bills. That’s why we install about 300,000 roof systems a year and there’s no sign of that.”

Bowen attributed the rise of solar energy to the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which reduces initial installation costs by around 30%.
