Today at the CPUC: SDG&E’s revised rate plans under scrutiny In a recent filing with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) presented changes to its utility rates via Advisory Letter 4361-EA. This filing comes in the wake of ongoing regulatory reforms aimed at improving network reliability and fairness of tariff structures. The proposed adjustments have led to discussions among stakeholders about their potential impact on consumers and the energy market. SDG&E’s revised rate proposal is part of a broader initiative to align its operations with the state’s ambitious clean energy goals and meet increasing…
Bristan joins the business trend of installing solar energy on roofs. Image: Bristan Group Bristan Group, a major manufacturer of kitchen and bathroom products, has successfully installed 1,666 solar panels at its headquarters in Tamworth, Staffordshire. The new panels are expected to supply the business with more than 600 kW/h of electricity, enough to cover approximately 56% of the site’s power needs. This would result in enormous CO2 savings of approximately 100,000 kg per year. The panels, each weighing 22kg, were installed on the roof of the Bristan Group headquarters with the support of energy partner Evo Energy. Paul Jones…
A Chinese-Canadian research team proposed a new PV mounting solution based on two types of spacers and two types of clamps that can be printed with common printing materials. The cost of the different solutions presented ranges from CAD1.50 ($1.10) to CAD3.83. May 16, 2024 Lior KahanaA group of researchers from Canada’s Western Ontario University has developed and tested 3D-printed mounting mechanisms for the wooden racks of PV modules. The open source designsIt is also claimed that, in addition to enabling distributed production, they are also cheaper and contain less energy and carbon compared to conventional racking materials.“Wooden racks are…
Zhongchu Guoneng Technology Co., Ltd. (ZCGN) has launched the world’s largest compressed air energy storage project in China. The $207.8 million energy storage plant has a capacity of 300 MW/1,800 MWh and uses an underground salt cavern. May 16, 2024 Vincent ShawChinese developer ZCGN has completed construction of a 300 MW compressed air energy storage facility (CAES) in Yingcheng, China’s Hubei province. The company said the storage facility is the largest CAES system in the world to date. Previously, the largest CAES facility was a 100 MW project started in October 2022 by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese…
Researchers from Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) have used indirect gravure printing for the front metallization of silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells, reducing silver consumption at cycle times of 0.5 seconds per cell and achieving a conversion efficiency was achieved of up to 20.7%.“A major advantage of rotary printing techniques, such as rotogravure but also rotary screen printing and flexographic printing, is the possibility of greatly reducing the cycle time per wafer and thus increasing the throughput per hour compared to the most modern metallization methods,” said research leader Jörg Schube pv magazine. The researchers noted that…
Hecate energy has received approval of the site agreement and conditional use permit application for the planned 150 MW Cumberland Solar Energy Facility in Virginia.“This approval helps advance our shared goal of delivering substantial economic benefits to Cumberland County and achieving energy independence in Virginia,” said Preston Schultz, principal project developer of Cumberland Solar Facility. “We appreciate the leadership and support of the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors in advancing this project.”The March 12 vote by the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors authorized Hecate Energy to bring this approximately $200 million private infrastructure investment to the county. The facility will…
