The government of Bangladesh has called for consultants to conduct a feasibility study, initial environmental assessment and environmental and social impact assessment for a 100 MW solar power plant. The consultants are also expected to examine the transmission line route for connection to the nearest grid substation.

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has launched a consultancy tender for a proposed 100 MW solar power plant in Kalapara village in the south-central part of the country.

The chosen consultancy firm will be commissioned to carry out a detailed feasibility study, in addition to an initial environmental study and an environmental and social impact study.

The company will also conduct a route survey, land acquisition plan and resettlement action plan for a 132 kV transmission line to connect the project to the nearest electricity grid.

According to the tender detailsthe work must be financed from its own resources. The deadline for expressions of interest is June 5, 2024.

Figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) show that Bangladesh had deployed 767 MW of solar energy by the end of 2023, up from 524 MW by the end of 2022.

It appears that the accelerated deployment of solar energy in the country will continue. Bangladesh authorities have approved 2.1 GW of solar power in 2023, including 630 MW in December alone. In April, the government approved the construction of three more solar power plants, each with a capacity of 100 MW.
