Belgium’s CMB.Tech said the world’s largest green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol project should start in January 2026. In the meantime, Gascade has converted 400 kilometers of gas pipeline for hydrogen transport. December 22, 2025 Sergio Matalucci CMB.Tech has signed an offtake agreement for green ammonia produced by CEEC Hydrogen Energy in Jilin Province, China, and will own a minority stake in privately held Jiangsu Andefu, one of China’s largest ammonia supply chain companies. “The first phase of the CEEC Songyuan project will produce approximately 158,000 tons of renewable ammonia annually. Construction of the project was completed at the end of…
The solar industry’s explosive growth to 2TW by 2024 coincides with a worrying trend: the increase in record-breaking weather events and their potential impact on PV infrastructure worldwide. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has confirmed that human-induced climate change is increasing the intensity and frequency of most extreme weather categories, with widespread impacts beyond natural climate variability. A recently released IEA PVPS Task 13 report, with input from PV researchers from five continents, examines seven major weather threats and provides evidence-based guidance for designing more robust systems tailored to specific climate risks. While the report states that “most…

Developer-operator Aura Power has secured project financing for its 49.9 MWp Horton Solar Farm in East Devon. The financing for the project is Aura Power’s fifth financing for solar power plants in the past 14 months, bringing its construction portfolio to 298p, with 196MWp already under construction. Rabobank provided senior debt financing, while junior financing was provided by Invested. To date, Rabobank has partnered with Aura Power for all its solar construction projects in the United Kingdom. The Horton Solar Farm received a building permit in June 2023 and construction will start in May 2026. The partner for engineering, procurement…
A team from Fraunhofer ISE has developed new imaging methods to measure losses in individual subcells of multi-junction solar cells based on perovskite-silicon and perovskite-perovskite-silicon combinations. December 22, 2025 Valerie Thompson Researchers at Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) have developed new imaging methods to measure losses in individual subcells of perovskite-silicon tandem and perovskite-perovskite-silicon triple junction devices. The research team noted the growing need to be able to measure the electrical and thermal effects of new functional multi-junction solar cell materials and deposition methods at the individual subcell level without necessarily having direct electrical access. There…
Solarpro says it is building a 450 MW solar power plant in northern Hungary using Longi modules. December 22, 2025 Brian Public Solarpro is building a 450 MW solar power plant in Heves County, Hungary. The company said it will be the largest PV installation in the country. The Europe-based engineering, procurement, construction and operations and maintenance contractor is deploying nearly 700,000 solar panels supplied by Chinese manufacturer Longi. The project is expected to generate approximately 470 GWh of electricity per year, which is sufficient to supply approximately 106,000 households with electricity, according to Solarpro. The companies said the plant…
Wood Mackenzie has released its latest “Global ranking of solar panel manufacturersreport for the first half of 2025, in which solar panel companies are assessed on deliveries, financeability and performance. JA Solar and Trinasolar jointly claimed the highest rank, with scores of 91.7 and 91.6 respectively. The report evaluated 38 crystalline silicon module manufacturers and highlights a growing operational and financial gap within the industry. Leading companies are focusing on technology, usage and geographic diversification to address the persistent problem of oversupply. “Despite dominating 80% of global shipments, the world’s largest solar manufacturers are feeling the pressure of a tough…
