The Government of Bangladesh has opened a public consultation on a design of its renewable energy policy 2025. It proposes to release components and raw materials of renewable energy from import tasks and VAT.

It said that a non -specifically accredited laboratory would revise the imported goods. The design also grants the same benefits to foreign investors in the renewable energy sector as domestic investors.

If approved, the provisions come into effect on publication in the official Gazette. They would periodically be expanded on the basis of impact assessments.

The proposed policy also releases the stamp rights for investors of renewable energy and introduces an incentive mechanism for carbon trade. The document stated that the turnover from carbon trade could be exempt from income tax and government tasks.

“We have brought enormous changes and have almost all the form of renewable energy in the new policy aimed at promoting clean energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels,” said a high Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (Sreda ) told PV -Magazine.

The new policy would apply to renewable energy for use in captivity, sale of public utilities or transactions from third parties, including the mechanism for renewable energy certificate.

It would also relate to all renewable sources, including solar, onshore and offshore wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, green biofuels, waste-to-energy, hydro, ocean and tidal waves, green hydrogen and hybrid systems.

The design said that the proposed policy includes energy storage systems and makes it possible to integrate existing or emerging technologies that were developed during implementation.
