Celebrating the flow of new community kisses in Howard County, Maryland, is (from left to right) Abigail Ross Hopper, President and CEO, Solar Energy Industries Association; Richard Gilker, senior vice president of technical operations, Pivot Energy; Stefano Ratti, CEO, Chaberton Energy; Erica Brinker, Chief Commercial and Sustainability Officer, Chaberton Energy; and Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.

On July 8, Chaberton Energy cut off the ribbon on a new 3.2 MW community solar project in Fulton, Maryland. The Lime Kiln project was developed by Chaberton and is owned by and is managed by Pivot Energy.

Local leaders of Howard County, members of the community and partners in the development and construction of the project attended the ribbon cut. During the event, Chaberton Energy, via Chaberton Cares, presented the Bright Minds Foundation, Howard County Public Schools’ Education Foundation of Public Schools, with a check of $ 10,000 to finance a voice for graduating seniors in the coming five years.

“We are so proud to bring new renewable energy generation to Maryland and Howard County,” said Stefano Ratti, founder and CEO of Chaberton Energy. “With the growing energy demand and rising electricity accounts, projects such as Lime Kil help help alleviate pressure on the electricity grid and save money.”

The project is part of the Maryland Community Solar Program and is fully subscribed. Community Solar offers residents and companies in the area able to access cheaper, renewable energy that is generated locally. Subscribers to Kalkoven save an average 10% discount on their electricity bill every year.

“Projects of renewable energy such as these are crucial for the continuous success of Howard County,” said Calvin Ball, director of Howard County, who spoke during the ceremony. “Solar brings locally generated energy to our community, while helping to achieve the ambitious goal of Maryland to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2035.”
