The latest analysis from SolarPower Europe shows that in 2024, Europe installed 21.9 GWH from New Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), only 15% higher than 2023. The predictions of slower growth have been released, but the details reveal a major shift in where installations take place.

New European BES installations reached 21.9 GWH in 2024, which marked an eleventh year of record implementations, despite the growth that delayed up to 15% on an annual basis, according to the European market front views for battery storage 2025-2029 report.

The new installations bring the total battery fleet of Europe to 61.1 GWH, which represents a significant delay after three consecutive years of doubling annual capacity challenge. In 2023, for example, an increase of 94% was registered in the installations, at 17.2 GWH.
