The Federal Government of Canada is investing around 7.9 million ($ 8.6 million) in the Oil to heat PUMP Affordability (OHPA) program in the province of Manitoba.

The program, aimed at homeowners with a low to medium -sized income, offers a pre -leading payment of a maximum of CAD 20,000 for the purchase and installation of a highly efficient heat pump in houses currently heated with oil, plus a one -time CAD 250 heat pump bonus payment.

The government of Manitoba also contributes to CAD 2.6 million to the co-delivery of the OHPA program in its area.

The Federal Government also has the OHPA program leverage schemes in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Yukon. It adds discussions with other provinces and territories are underway.

Mike Moyers, Milieu of Manitoba and Climate Change Minister, said that the program will help the Province to reach its goal to support 5,000 Manitoba families to heat their houses and cool with heat pumps. “This program helps those who heat their house with oil to save money on their energy bills, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” he added.

Figures available on the Federal Government website state that a Canadian household that participates in the OHPA program Saves CAD 1,337 on energy costs and achieves a reduction of 2.78 tons in greenhouse gas annually.
