On Delft-based Startup Hyer Power, a hydrogen-driven system is developing to generate heat and electricity.

The Hyer Power Plant, set for installation at Innovation Hub Kaap in Vlissingen, is expected to be operational towards the end of this year.

The factory will combine a heat pump, fuel cell system and energy storage technology, and offers a decentralized, all-in-one solution for the electricity and heat needs of companies. It will also contain Smart Energy Management software.

The project is intended to illuminate the congestion of the gratings in the province of Zeeland, where companies have delays in securing access to the grid, limiting expansion and new developments.

“The Hyer Power Plant will generate both electricity and heat from hydrogen for buildings,” said Erik van der Wal, co-founder of Hyer Power. “This is an important step for Vlissingen, because it will be a showcase location for new energy solutions.”

Hyer Power said on its website that the project will serve as a test case for the built environment, which shows the feasibility of the use of hydrogen to generate both electricity and heat. The project also includes studies into current and projected energy consumption, together with the development of system designs and installation plans.

The initiative has protected € 332,874 ($ 363,080) in the financing of the Zeeland Public Interests Foundation to bring the project to life.
