Elements Green acquires 149 MW of BESS, Downing 72.1 MW of solar PV

Renewable energy developer Elements Green has completed the acquisition of the 148.8MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in West Sussex from developer Envirotech Energy Solutions.

The company, located near Wineham, has secured full ownership of the Bolney Green Energy Hub after signing a share purchase agreement (SPA). The BESS project will last four hours and is expected to be fully operational in the fourth quarter of 2027.

Planning approval for the project was received from Mid-Sussex District Council in September 2024.

The acquisition of the Bolney Green Energy Hub follows the recent financial close of another BESS project in Nottinghamshire, the 360MW/720MWh Staythorpe. Construction of the £71.5 million BESS project began in August 2025 is expected to be fully operational by mid-2027.

“This four-hour project is exactly the type of high-integrity infrastructure needed to support a flexible and reliable renewable energy future. Now that the SPA has been signed, our team is focused on delivering this 148.8 MW of power as part of our broader 13,000 MW global pipeline,” said Rasmus Friis, CEO of Elements Green.

The newly acquired BESS project will be part of a development portfolio of more than 13 GW of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects in the UK, EU and other markets.

Downing acquires a 72.1 MW solar PV portfolio from BOOM Power

In connection with the acquisition of related sustainable energy projects, investment manager Downing has completed the acquisition of two solar PV installations from developer BOOM Power.

Both approved solar PV projects are located near Wakefield in West Yorkshire and are the 22.2 MW New Hall Solar Farm and the 49.9 MW Low Farm Solar Farm. According to Downing, the New Hall Solar Farm has been designed with a strong focus on environmental management, incorporating biodiversity improvements.

These acquisitions are in line with Downing’s long-term investment strategy, which focuses on building and operating renewable energy sources that deliver stable returns.
