PV cell and module manufacturer EliTe Solar is expanding its presence in Indonesia to take advantage of the country’s large solar potential. The Singapore-headquartered company has announced that it has successfully commissioned a high-efficiency solar cell manufacturing center in Indonesia.

The project has been in the works for some time and the site was initially selected in May 2024. Construction, preparation and installation of equipment followed during the summer months and the facility was fully operational by early December 2024.

EliTe Solar sought the help of the Indonesian government and partners to open the facility as soon as possible, citing job creation, economic growth and knowledge sharing as potential benefits for the region.

EliTe Solar will in turn benefit from the growing Indonesian solar energy industry. The country’s solar potential is estimated at more than 3 GW, and EliTe Solar hopes the new center will be able to meet the demand for cells.

It was not disclosed what specific technology would be deployed at the center, nor was annual capacity stated. pv magazine contacted the company for more information but received no response.

In addition to its activities in Indonesia and Singapore, EliTe Solar also has production facilities in Vietnam and Cambodia. The company is also building a production facility in Egypt, scheduled for completion in 2025. The first phase of the Egyptian project was announced in September 2024, with the company targeting a 2 GW cell production line the following year.

In total, EliTe Solar says it has delivered 10 GW of solar panels worldwide. Cambodia’s cell production line reached 2 GW in 2022, while Vietnam’s wafer production line reached 3 GW in 2023.
