The production of solar energy contributed last week to a decrease in electricity prices on the most important European markets, according to analysis of ALEASOFT Energy Prognosing.

During the week on April 28, both France and Italy broke their daily record for the production of solar energy. France registered 135 GWH on April 30, on the same day that Italy hit 150 GWH. In the meantime, Germany broke its record for solar energy that was produced during a day in April, with 397 GWH on the first day of the week.

These figures helped to fall electricity prices in these markets, but ALEASOFT also noticed a decrease in the weekly average electricity prices in Belgian, British, Dutch, Nordic, Portuguese and Spanish markets compared to the week before.

Weekly averages were lower than € 65 ($ 73.12)/MWH in all markets Bar The British and Italian, which registered € 76.88/MWH and € 80.91/MWh. The Spanish and Portuguese markets continued to have the lowest weekly averages, with € 15.36/MWh and € 16.50/MWh.

ALEASOFT says that a decrease in the weekly gas prices and the decrease in electricity demand in most markets has also contributed to the Neerwaartse turn. The prices are expected to have risen again this week, because the demand for electricity is increasing and the solar and wind production drops.

ALEASOFT says that most analyzed markets recorded negative hour prices last week. The Spanish market reached its historical minimum per hour price, at -€ 10.00/MWh, on 1 May. On the same day the French market -€ 118.01/MWh for the lowest price since July 3, 2023, while the Italian market registered a price of € 0.00/MWh. This is the minimum hourly value of the Italian market and was last registered on 13 April 2020.

The week that was in early 28 April coincided with the Blackout that influenced the Iberian peninsula. ALEASOFT says that the link between the prices of Spain and Portugal was currently 54%. This value can be compared with 84% link in the previous week and 95% registered in 2025 until the day before the Blackout.
