Japanese electrical equipment company Fuji Electric is currently developing a new type of steam-generating heat pump that recycles heat energy from waste water generated in factories and industrial facilities.

Steam generating heat pumps are often used as an alternative to low -pressure steam boilers in heating processes. Although boilers are usually far from these processes, heat pumps can be installed close to the processes, which can reduce heat loss and can increase heat protection.

The heat pump system lifts the heat from waste water at temperatures of a maximum of 80 ° C to heat the food water, which is preheated with a sub -cooler and is evaporated with a condenser. This water is then sent to a steam separator in the form of wet steam. The saturated steam is then arranged with a pressure regulator and to a heating process. In the meantime, the saturated water from the separator is mixed with the preheated food water and returned to the condenser.

Fuji Electric said that the current steam -generating heat pumps can produce steam at 120 ° C steam, while the new model is being conceived to increase the steam temperature to 150 ° C, which is said to be able to scoop and deteriorate next to the existing cleaning options.

“A heat pump of 150 ° C heats objects faster than a heat pump of 120 ° C,” the company said in a statement. “Moreover, the 150 ° C heat pump has increased steam pressure, which requires the need for the pressure reinforcement equipment required for those previously required with the 120 ° C heat pump to deliver steam through the pipes. As a result, installation costs can be reduced in some cases. “

The company explained that the new heat pump system is currently in the first phase of prototyping, whereby commercial launch is planned for 2026.

Crucial for the new system is the selection of components that are resistant to the high temperature of 150 C.

“Until now, the compressor, the core component of the heat pump, was obtained from a German company,” said Fuji Electric. “This time, however, we are developing the part with a partner company. The internal development of the compressor will have a significant impact on the success or failure of this project. “

The 120 ° C heat pump has a performance coefficient of up to 3.5 and a technology level (TRL) of nine. The TRL measures the maturity of technological components for a system and is based on a scale of one to nine, with nine that represent adult technologies, ready for full commercial application.

“In this project our goal is not only to sell heat pumps as a stand-alone product. We also want to offer a complete solution with other equipment and systems such as an ‘energy management system’ that meets the needs of the customer, “the company said.
