French Institut photovoltaïque d’île-de-France (IPVF) has announced the performance of Bifacial Perovskite PV devices with 18.1% power conversion efficiency of 2 cm x 2 cm and 16.8% for 10 cm x 10 cm mini-solarodules.

The IPvF told PV -Magazine That the result was made possible by his ability to stimulate new technology development at different fake levels in -house.

“These results mark a decisive breakthrough in the mission of IPVF to transform laboratory innovation into industrial reality. What really distinguishes this performance achieves these performance levels through production processes that are ready for mass producing today,” said Roch Drozdowski-Sttheghl, IPVF CEO, in a statement.

For the solar cell, the researchers used a new passivation on the interface of the perovskiet layer and the N-type contact after identifying the optimum molecular combination in their research program. This was transferred internally to an IPVF development program aimed at process and performance improvements to support compatibility with industrial production processes.

In particular, the lab scale devices were made with spincoating and then via a lock that coating environmental process. The results were improved by applying vacuum extinguishing to dry the layer deposited by slot mattrous coating.

A broad band gap -hybrid perovskiet cell technology was used because it has a “high compatibility” with tandem applications. The plan is to scale up internally in size up to 60 cm x 30 cm to be combined with silicon PV modules in a four-wire, second-wire (4T2C) Perovskiet-Silicon tandem design. These will be produced on a new prototype line that will be operational early next year.

The IPVF works together with partners to speed up technology transfer and “combining world-class research with industrial expertise,” said Drozdowski-Streghl.

IPVF recently hired a solar simulator with advanced electroluminescentia (EL) analysis of the Italian Ecoprogetti for testing perovskite solar cells and modules. It also has a continuous collaboration aimed at Perovskiet-Silicon Tandem solar panels with French solar manufacturer Voltec Solar.
