Largest solar project east of Mississippi River now online in Illinois

Swift Current Energy has brought its 800 MWDC Double Black Diamond Solar Project Online in Illinois. The project is 30 miles west of Springfield and is the largest operational solar facility east of the Mississippi River.

This week Swift Current held a ribbon cutting ceremony on the project site, an event attended by Chicago Burgemeester Brandon Johnson and other government and business officers.

The city of Chicago is one of the largest cities in the United States that involve 100% of the power for its municipal activities of renewable energy. About 70% of the power of Chicago used for its facilities – including O In addition, Cook County, CVS Health, Loyola University Chicago, PPG, State Farm and Transunion are the power of the project via Constellation NewEnergy.

Eric Lammers, CEO and co-founder of Swift Current, said: “The demand for electricity in the US is accelerating with new production tax and technical needs. Our double black diamond solar facility is an example of how we use American manufacturers and American employees to offer the energy that is needed to load the growth of our country now.”

The project has first solar panels made in Ohio, important steel components from Chicago and racks from the American facilities of Nexpracker. During the construction, double black diamonds created about 500 jobs and achieved commercial operation with more than 1 million safe person hours. The project also successfully met the Illinois Clean and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) Labor and various recruitment standards for the development of renewable energy, which helps to help opportunities for a broader range of Illinoisians. During the life of the project, Double Black Diamond Solar is expected to yield significant tax revenues to the Local Project Counties, Sangamon and Morgan, in Central Illinois. In addition, Swift Current will offer $ 10 million to the community funds to the Sangamon Growth Alliance, Auburn School District, City of Chicago and Cook County.

Andy van Meter, chairman, Sangamon County Board, said: “The Double Black Diamond Solar Project offers important financial benefits to Sangamon County. It is expected that $ 100 million in local tax revenues during his life, with more than 60%, are expected to our public schools. Tangible benefits for our residents.”
