Swiss-based energy producer MET Group has completed construction of a 23.4 MW solar project in eastern Hungary. It will generate enough energy to power approximately 13,000 local homes and has a life expectancy of 30 years.

MET Group has built its second solar power plant in Hungary, in the eastern city of Kaba.

The MET Kaba II solar park is located next to the company’s first solar park in Hungary, which was commissioned in 2021. It has more than 33,000 solar panels spread over 31 hectares.

This was stated by a spokesperson for the MET Group pv magazine that the project will be split into two smaller installations. The Titán site consists of three plots and the Rhea site has two more factories. They are all connected to the electricity grid via the Kaba high-voltage substation.

The spokesperson said the installation includes 58 Huawei inverters, each with a maximum power of 330 kW and a maximum efficiency of 98.7%, all connected to the electricity grid via four transformer stations. The total capacity of the project is 23.4 MW, which is enough to power approximately 13,000 local households. It has an expected lifespan of 30 years.

“Solar energy has grown significantly in Hungary in recent years, with solar energy generation set to reach approximately 19.5% of total energy generation in 2023 and approximately 33% of the energy mix today,” said Clive Turton, executive chairman of MET Group’s green assets department. . “I am very pleased that MET is playing a major role in this transition with the Kaba project and with our other solar, wind and battery storage projects.”

Hungary had a record year for solar energy in 2023, adding 1.6 GW of new capacity, bringing the cumulative installed capacity to over 5.6 GW. Earlier this month, Israeli developer Enlight Renewable Energy said it had turned on 60 MW of solar energy in western Hungary.
