China’s Kaisheng New Energy Technology has agreed to produce a new line of thin-film rooftop solar panels under an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Sweden’s Midsummer. The modules will be exclusive to the European roof market until midsummer.

May 2, 2024 Patrick Jowett

He said that in the near term, this will allow the companies to scale quickly and tap into a price-sensitive segment of the European market.

“Asian panels continue to be treated favorably by the EU in terms of customs duties etc. and have a price advantage compared to European products which some customers value,” Jaremalm said.

Midsummer is now building a 200 MW CIGS solar module factory. Earlier this week it was said that it will be located in southeastern Sweden.
