A study commissioned by Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Developer Root-Power has shown that both English public and local officials are broadly in support of BESS developments in their environment.
Two -thirds (65%) of the 2,074 people surveyed said that they would support the development of a self -containing energy storage project in their local area, with more than three -quarters (77%) of the 430 councilors who say they would support such developments in their constituency.
Support is widespread in the political spectrum, where 71% of the work voters come out to support battery energy storage projects and 70% of the voters of green parties that support Bess developments. Right-wing voters also issued a high level of support, with 66% of the voters of the conservative party for BESS projects and reform of British voters, the most compared to BESS developments in this survey, with a level of 64% of support. Age also had little impact on the support levels, with opposition to Bess projects that do not exceed 17% in all age groups.
Neil Brooks, director of Root-Power, stated that the Cross-Party support for BESS developments among both councilors and the general public proven that BESS projects are a “no-brainer” for many, and says: “It is great to see such a high level of support for battery storage projects among both councilors and the people they represent that they represent them that they represent.”
He added: “What we really need is a joint effort from the local and central government to embrace this support and help the sector to help more developments.”
In addition, the addition of co-located Bess to a proposal from the solar PV energy plant increases public support for solar developments. About 75% of the councilors surveyed stated that they would support a solar PV energy plant with co-located berry in their area, while only 62% said that they would support the development of a PV energy center for solar energy without any co-led energy storage.
The respondents of the survey, both councilors and members of the public, have stated overwhelming that they believe that Bess developments should be on Brownfield Land, with 70% of the general public and 85% of councilors who support developments on Brownfield sites.
Brooks, however, noted that the current planning policy means that placing Bess projects on Brownfield Land is increasingly challenging, forcing developers Greenfield Land to use that against 53% of the public is being opposed and 73% of the council members surveyed.
On this, Brooks said: “I would encourage the government to look at ways to improve the viability of Brownfield sites, so that projects can yield higher levels of public and council members, so that projects are brought faster to the advantage of all of us.”
Root-Power recently made efforts to move to the Les sector sector (Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDE). Earlier this month, the developer stated that it had submitted plans for four energy storage projects with a combined 2.4 GWH of storage capacity in the LDES uses, the four-way-to-handed-up-to-use activities will be used-to-spend use of activities-spent-by-speeching-to-use speeching-to-use speeching-to-use speeching-to-use speeching-to-use speeching-to-use speeching.
