New software aims to cut residential solar contract cancellations

In an industry where half of all signed contracts never make it to installation, a new technology company is helping solar installers dramatically reduce cancellation rates through automated integration and customer engagement.

According to a study by NREL, contract cancellations add an average of $0.20/W to system costs, or about $1,400 per project, directly impacting installer margins and consumer prices.

“The first two weeks after contract signing are critical,” said Steven Male, co-founder of Pale Blue Dawn. “The data shows that of all customers who cancel or stall, 73% do so in the first 5 days. This insight led us to develop a solution that specifically targets this vulnerable period.”

The company’s platform, dubbed Bridgit, transforms how solar companies engage with customers through a simple yet powerful approach: connecting their essential software tools.

Using a drag-and-drop integration platform, Bridgit seamlessly links various solar platforms (CRM, design, project management) in days instead of months, automating customer communications throughout the installation process.

The impact of connected tools ripples throughout the entire solar installation journey. Automated data flow means customers receive instant updates. Design changes automatically sync across proposal tools and utility applications, reducing errors and speeding up approval times. Installation teams get real-time updates on permit statuses and customer approvals, helping reduce the average time-to-install. Perhaps most importantly, customers gain transparency into their project status through automated notifications and online portals, dramatically improving their confidence in the process.
