German MBJ Solutions, a specialist in equipment for the PV industry, recently launched the MBJ Steady State Sun Simulator, designed for the characterization of small perovskite modules, and the MBJ Light Soaking Unit, created for aging testing and preconditioning of perovskite devices.

The market for MBJ Solutions equipment is international, according to Volker Biemann, product manager of MBJ Solutions. “We have customers all over the world, but mainly in Europe, the US and Southeast Asia,” Biemann said pv magazine.

The MBJ Steady State Sun Simulator, with a measuring area of 500 mm x 500 mm, is made for teams developing different device sizes, from cells to small modules. It features a continuous solar simulator of class A+, according to IEC 60904-9 Ed.3. The 22-LED unit has an extended ultraviolet and infrared spectrum. The spectral coverage and deviation are >98% and <24%, respectively. It is compact, with an integrated 5 megapixel electroluminescence camera.

The MBJ Light Soaking Unit can be used as a test bench for solar cell aging tests, but also for preconditioning in cell production before I/V measurements. The system features variable LEDs that can support continuous light and flash mode in a measuring area of 380 mm x 380 mm. It is supported by two separately controllable LED channels. The flash time can be varied from 100 to 500 milliseconds. Each LED channel delivers 1000 W/m² at approximately 50% of the permitted current with a lifespan of > 50,000 hours.

The equipment requires minimal training, according to Biemann. “It depends on the system type, but typically operators require one day of training to operate and maintain the system,” he said.

MBJ Solutions also launched an enhanced version of its mobile PV module test system this year, complete with support for a solar simulator and electroluminescence test. It is made for on-site measuring of large panels, for example pre-installation or post-installation inspections.

Founded in 2009, MBJ Solutions develops test and measurement systems for the PV industry, including solar simulators, electroluminescence test systems, as well as insulation and soil testing equipment. Development and production take place in Germany, with a service office in Taiwan.
